I’m not sure whether this is a Lightburn software issue or a Laser hardware issue. I’m using Lightburn and absolute coordinates with a Ray5 10W laser. I always start up (power up) at the lower left point (0,0). I have additionally set the option to go to a far point (300mm,300mm) after it completes the engraving. The problem I’m having is once it goes to that far point, if I restart the same engraving for a second pass (by depressing “START”) the second pass is misaligned from the first pass engraving by about 3mm - 6mm in both the X and Y directions. If I then do a third restart of the same job it becomes further misaligned. My Ray5 10W is about 3 months old and I had had previously not seen this problem. The last engraving was at the lower 1/4 of the screen, about 75mm high by about 330mm wide, centered in the X direction, and about 12mm above the base. To simplify things as an additional test I drew a simple rectangle which was about the same size and location of the previous engraving, ran it in “Line” mode with a single pass, let it complete, and automatically go to location 300mm,300mm. I then clicked “Start” again in order to reinitialize the run. The second pass of the drawn rectangle was 3mm offset in both X and Y directions. I then ran a 3rd pass and the engraved rectangle was misaligned from both the first pass and the 2nd pass in the same direction and shift as the second pass. At no time did the laser head hit or stop at one of the rails nor did I get a message on its display of this happening. Can someone suggest a solution to this issue?
I do not know if this will solve your problem, but I AM SURE your $100 and $101 parameters are incorrect. Enter $$ in the Console window and save the results in a text file.
When you say it was okay before, were you using Return to Finish Position then?
I use the procedure you describe a lot. Your Steps/mm have to correct for this to work.
Could you be more specific on how to implement your suggestions? Is the console window the window that opens up when you start up on the right top of the Lightburn window (it has tabs below it for cut, move, etc)… Will this show me the present values of $100 and $101. If I then enter $$ will the console show the values read from my Longer Ray5?
Yes.
Yes, by doing the next part.
Yes.
If entering $$ in the Console window does not show a list of 30-40 settings, Then you have a controller that does not play well with users.
I have not used it, but you might try the Calibrate Axis in the Machine Settings window.
