Equal Distance between shapes and objects

Hello,
I’m trying to get the black circles to have the same distance from the blue outline for this entire shape. I’ve tried using the dock buttons but can only get it to work between the circles. It’s like the dock commands do not see the blue outline.
I’m sure I’m missing something but I’ve been thinking about it for too long.

Maybe do an offset that matches the distance you want to be and dock to that, then delete the offset?

I tried that but it seems to behave the same way.

Just to verify, these are the Dock tools you’re using?

Yessir.
One thing I just noticed…
When I position the blue outline between two circles the dock buttons work as expected. I can tell the outline to move right or left and it stops at each circle. However, when I select the circles and have them dock right or left, they go from one side of my grid to the other as if the blue outline isn’t there.

Show the entire screen please. Is this a closed shape? if it is, it won’t dock to the inside edge of a closed shape.

It is a closed shape.

I just did a test with a rectangle. I converted to path then used node editor to break one corner. It still acted the same, then i used node editor to move the broken points apart and I was able to dock to the inside. You could do that, then after everything is docked rejoin the shape.

Here is an example image. I’m going to try your suggestion now.

Rather than break apart your image, do the offset for distance and break it apart since it will be deleted later anyhow.

I think I figured it out. My shape was too big and it was hanging on the outside of the grid causing it to be ignored. Once I resized it to fit inside my grid, it is working as expected (using your broken shape method).
Thank you!
