Etching is ‘blotchy’ and not consistent

I just picked up a second 1390 China laser and I’m just getting some settings dialed in. This machine is a 130w, my last had a dying 100w, so the power levels need to be adjusted.

Take a look at these pics- as I get higher power (values are set as min & max), the etch gets darker, but not consistently.
These sample tiles were etched in the position you see with x going left- right. See how the burn is not consistent for the letters? The letter T in Oct has 2 shades. The racetrack outline almost looks like it’s being 3d carved.

If I add more power, it gets more exaggerated.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried setting s lower Min value? so when doing long strokes like the top of the T as opposed to a short blast in the upright of the T it might be able to choose a lower settings to even it out?
