I have been trying to make some brass coins with deep engraving. I am using a depth map with 3D sliced image mode. At first I was missing detail so I upped the amount of passes (512) and the engraving looks nice and detailed but the bottom layer shows the cross-hatch pattern that it used to engraved.
Did you clean it yet?
Blowing a light stream of air over the surface while engraving can help get debris out of the way.
You could try enabling a cleanup pass.
Generally, you want a cleanup pass to have a smaller line interval, less power and a higher frequency than the main settings.
Thank you! Will add a bit of an air assist-like to my setup!
When checking “enable cleanup pass”, what’s recommended for the “cleanup # passes” when doing 512 passes on the main layer? I feel that adding one every 4 or 8 passes is going to make it an extremely lengthy process
I’m not sure how much it would help to do a cleanup every 8 passes.
You can instead enter 512 for the setting “Clean after # of passes” so that only one cleaning pass is done at the end.
Or set it to 256 to have another cleanup pass in the middle.
If you can share the settings you used for your coin, we might have other tips to improve your result.
