First time using my RA1 with my D1 (not pro)

I have had my D1 for several years now, but I have never used the RA1. I’m have installed Lightburn Core 2.1.04.

The D1 is working properly on flat surface engraving. I have configured the rotary tool as per Xtools instructions and have verified my setup with the Lightburn instructions. I cannot get my RA1 to perform a test during the rotary setup, nor can I get it to frame properly. When I perform a frame, the gantry will only move horizontally and will not move vertically. The rollers are not moving either.

Any assistance you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Did you select the correct axis?

The Trolley (Xaxis) should move, but the Gantry (Yaxis) should not move. The Yaxis output now controls the Rotary, because the Yaxis cable is plugged into the Rotary motor.

Your rotary should have come with a short cross-over patch cable. Assuming you did not plug the Yaxis cable into the motor backwards, you may need to use that cable.

And finally you must select the Yaxis for the rotary output in the Rotary Setup window. Once you get it moving, these Docs may help.

Google found this for me…

If you still have trouble, let us know. If you get it running, let us know that too.

I have the xTool RA2 rotary and it works great on my other brand machines.

Since this is a D1 (not Pro), I selected the Z axis. I have tried the Y axis, but the rollers do not rotate.

And did this make a difference? Is the rotary plugged into a Zaxis port on the controller board? If not, this new setting will not work no matter what.

I could be misremembering this, but a few years ago on older firmware versions for the D1, pro or non-pro, in order to use the rotary you would need to go into XCS and select what kind of rotary you were using before you could close XCS and reopen LightBurn to get the rotary to function normally.

For your sake @whoehne I hope this is outdated information, but it’s worth giving it a shot to see if that gets your rotary to act the way it’s supposed to.

It may also be worth checking to see if there are new firmware updates available for your laser as well to prevent any strange issues like this in the future.
