First time using rotary - issue with sending file to laser

I have a Chinese laser with a Rudia controller that came with a rotary tool. I am attempting to use the rotary for the first time and have almost got it, but ran into an issue sending the file to the laser. I have successfully set up the chuck rotary, and have the design positioned where I want it. I can hit the frame button and it will show me where the engrave will take place. all seems ready to go, however, when I hit the start button, it appears on the screen that the job is sending to the laser as normal, but the laser head does not move, does not print at all. After a few minuets, the laser head retracts to the home position and the ‘finished’ message displays on the Rudia board. I don’t know how to overcome this obstacle. Can anyone offer some help to understand what I might be doing wrong?
