So I ran my first focus test today and found that line 3.5 is the thinnest. I’m running in inches and have the JTech 2.8w laser. Would this mean I have to turn the lens a small amount counter clockwise and run the test again until my thinnest line is 0.0? I’m using a zero height of the recommended 1/8" if that matters.
Also…Do the numbers in the test represent a imperial Z height of like .01 increases?
The numbers represent the range of Z values you entered, and will depend on whether you are using ‘Relative Z moves’ or not. If you have relative moves enabled, they’d be added to whatever the starting height was. If you’re using absolute Z moves, they would be absolute Z height values.
Thanks Oz. That helped a lot. Would you know which way I should adjust the lens if my smallest line was around the middle of the test? Would I adjust until line 0.0 is the smallest?
Again, it would depend on if you were using relative or absolute moves, and it would depend on the range of numbers you chose too. The focus test is meant to show you which height is ideal for your laser without refocusing the lens. If you do a -10 to +10 range, for example, and -5 is the best, then you’d move your Z up by 5 and that should get you good focus.
