Font Sizes not matching

I’m having trouble when importing artwork from AI or from a pdf with the font size not being correct. THe lightburn software recognizes the font and what the font size should be however it is coming over smaller than the actual font. If I try typesetting in lightburn directly the font size doesn’t automatically size to the correct font height that I set it to. For example, if import text in 8.5 pt Ariel it should be 2.99mm but it’s coming in at 1.645mm. If I adjust the height to 2.99 it changes the font size. It’s as if the text / font function doesn’t seem to work properly.

I’m not an expert in this, but isn’t the point size a relative measurement related to the resolution? Or can this be directly converted into mm?
If working in LB, I would always use mm as absolute units, such that you have the desired outcome.

This could be the difference between two font measurement systems:

Of course, a font’s em height is different than its X height, because history. Per Wikipedia:

However, as a very rough guideline, an “average” font might have a cap height of 70% of the em, and an x-height of 48% of the em.

Also, if you’re working on two different computers, make sure the same font is installed on both systems. AFAICT, identical font names don’t necessarily mean the underlying files are identical.

While you’re trying things, ensure the SVG import scaling matches the source program. I think that does not apply to AI / PDF files, but it could contribute should you get even weirder results with SVG files.
