Frustration with installation

I purchased an Atomstack X7 Pro laser and have installed Lightburn on MacBook Pro laptop.
The laptop OS is macOS monterey 12.2.1. I have no idea what the controller is on the laser and when I installed the LB software I indicated GRBL controller. Did I make the right choice. What version of LB should I purchase?

Yes. Atomstack should be GRBL.

You would minimally need the G-code license. You could also get the DSP license which includes G-code controllers if you had that need. You can also upgrade later.

More information here:
Which version do I need? – LightBurn Software

What is the problem ? the mac does not recognize the software? no connection between the laser and the mac?

All of the above

I imagine that you’re caught on the Bluetooth vs. USB issue that plagues the mac folks.

With LightBurn up and running and the laser plugged into the computer, open the Console window and see if you see anything other than “Waiting For Connection”. (click Window in the top bar - slide down to console and click that)

If that’s all you see, open the Laser window (same way as above but click Laser) and make sure that window says GRBL. Then click the box between Devices and GRBL and post those options here. You want to select one that doesn’t say auto or bluetooth.

Thanks for the suggestion i”ll try that tomorrow.

I checked the console and it does say waiting for connection. went to the laser panel and entered cu.usbserial-14130 in the space between devices and greglaser (the name I called it when I loaded lightburn program)

I wish to thank everyone who sent me suggestions on fixing my problem. I feel so stupid but Atomstack shipped my laser with the emergency switch on the control engaged as soon as I disengaged it everything works. Thank you again.

I had heard about this before - good to know. Do they intentionally ship them with the stop button locked down?

They’re not hard to press, and they lock when engaged and have to be twisted to unlock. This is a common thing with CO2 lasers too. I’ve been caught by it once or twice myself. (not shipped that way, but forgot the emergency stop was pressed and checked everything but that)
