I’ve tried so many speed changes and no matter what I can’t get a engraved cut. I wasted many pieces of wood trying to fix this issue and I decided to shrink the image to test to be less wasteful. In shrinking it the image actually did engrave. so I figured “this is it!” I figured it out!.. well in returning to full size with those same speed/power settings the image only toasted the wood. (doesn’t matter if it’s 200/400/600/1200/1500/etc) it either toasts the wood or does a faint toasting. It’s driving me crazy and I need to figure this out for a military veteran (My mother) PLEASE HELP!
Bumping this as it’s pretty urgent
I recommend going through these things in order:
- Focus test - make sure you’re getting good focus. A ramp test is the typical way to do this if you do not have a motorized Z-axis.
- Interval test - determine the right interval for your laser and material. You can use LighBurn’s Interval test for this
- Material test - use LightBurn’s material test or one generated elsewhere to determine the appropriate settings for what you’re trying to do on the material you’re trying to do it. Use the focus and interval inputs from the previous tests for this.
You may need to revisit the previous tests if you learn something in the material test that invalidates or trumps the previous tests.
What were the results of:
- The Material Test on the wood you’re using
- The Interval Test to find the engraving parameters
- The Focus Test to verify the focal point
If it’s OK with you, uploading the *lbrn2 file will let folks examine it for peculiarities.
If all those look good, then there are some machine settings to consider, but let’s not borrow trouble.
