Getting laser to print

Having trouble with laser operating. Using Lightburn 1.7.08 connected via USB. Control panel shows correct device and COM port and says it is “ready” but the laser doesn’t respond to any requests to move, frame, or start.

Even though it said it was “ready” I was having trouble with the connection. After multiple tries I finally was able to establish connection and everything went well. Sorry for the bother.

That is an older version from March of 2025. Our current, public release is version 2.1.04. I would suggest starting with this as we have addressed a bunch of things with these releases. You can trial our latest here:

Your profile identifies you as working with an Ortur, is that correct? Which ‘Device Profile’ are you using for this?

Yes, I’m working with an Ortur. I haven’t updated my Lightburn version because my use is very limited and currently few and far between. It does what I need it to do. As far as the “device profile” I have no idea and not even sure where to find it. I’m working off of whatever the default is. I was just frustrated with not being able to get it to connect. Once that was solved everything worked out for me. Thanx

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone can help because I’ve been going round in circles with this.

I’m using a Monport GM 60W Pro Integrated MOPA Fiber Laser with LightBurn Pro 2.1.04 on a Mac.

I installed the latest version of LightBurn, connected the laser by USB, used Find My Laser, and LightBurn detected it as BSLFiber.

I then imported the supplied BslCAD.cfg configuration file from the SeaCAD software and set the work area to 175 × 175 mm.

I also tried importing the supplied LmcPar.cfg file instead, because that configuration appeared to match the laser’s actual information/specification more closely. I recreated the device using that file as well, but the result was exactly the same.

The Laser panel shows Ready, so LightBurn appears to recognise and connect to the machine.

For testing, I’m using one of the black-coated aluminium business-card-sized test plates supplied with the laser.

My process has been:

  1. Put the aluminium card under the laser.
  2. Use the machine’s autofocus.
  3. Adjust the focus so the alignment/focus dots are in the correct position.
  4. Create some simple text in LightBurn.
  5. Press Frame.
  6. In Live Framing select Bounds.
  7. Turn on Run Continuously.
  8. Press Start.

Nothing happens.

The red guide dot is visible, but it stays completely stationary. It does not move around the boundary of the artwork.

LightBurn behaves as though Live Framing is running, but physically there is no galvo movement at all.

If I close Live Framing, LightBurn still says Ready. If I then press the main Start button, it takes me back into framing again, but once again nothing happens.

I have already tried:

  • Switching the laser off and back on
  • Restarting LightBurn
  • Disconnecting/reconnecting USB
  • Removing and recreating the device
  • Using Find My Laser again
  • Importing the supplied BslCAD.cfg
  • Importing the supplied LmcPar.cfg
  • Recreating the device using each config separately
  • Reinstalling/reconfiguring LightBurn
  • Trying much larger artwork to make sure the frame wasn’t simply too small to see

The result is always the same:

LightBurn says Ready, the red guide light works, but Live Framing produces no galvo movement.

Current basics are:

  • LightBurn Pro 2.1.04
  • macOS
  • BSLFiber
  • Monport GM 60W Pro MOPA
  • 175 × 175 mm field
  • JPT fibre source
  • Q-Pulse Width enabled
  • Device status: Ready

I’ve attached screenshots of the LightBurn device settings.

Has anyone seen a BSLFiber machine show Ready while Live Framing runs but the galvos/red dot do not move?

Is there a particular BSL/SeaCAD configuration, IO port, red-dot setting, blanking setting, controller setting or macOS connection issue I should be checking?

Any help would be massively appreciated because at the moment I can’t even get as far as safely framing a test job.
