Glass Settings on OMTech 50w CO2

Anybody using a OMTech 50w CO2 or similar laser have any good starting points to get good photo engravings into glass? I seem to be chasing my tail endlessly. Or where the DPI diminishing return point is. So far this has gotten me the best results, but could still use improvement.

Material is 2.2mm thick plain glass from Lowes.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried running an interval test? That will tell you the upper bounds of resolution you can reasonably expect. Going beyond that won’t improve resolution but may get you a particular look that you’re going for.

I was wondering if there was a good sample I could use to test the limits, is it built into the Lightburn or a user file?

LightBurn includes a tool to do this.

Go to Laser Tools->Interval Test. You may want to try this first on some non-precious material so that you know how it behaves. Then you can try this on your target material.

Awesome, thank you. I’ll definitely have to try that before I burn through the rest of my spare material!

With a 2" lens, a CO2 laser will probably be about 0.2mm line interval, +/- 0.05mm.
