Hello. I currently own a Glowforge and am wanting to upgrade my laser. A lot of lasers say they use Lightburn. I downloaded the trial to see how easy it is to use and if I would like it. Since I don’t have a laser compatible with Lightburn how do I use the trial?
You need a controller that Lightburn supports for full use of the software.
I believe you can use your Glowforge software on any SVG, DXF and maybe the AI file formats.
These formats are ‘exportable’ from Lightburn ‘File → Export’ option.
There is some talk on the web about changing out the control board of the Glowforge for a Cohesion3D controller, which I think is Lightburn compatible.
Good luck
The scenario of using LightBurn without an existing laser is covered in the documentation.
Check the section “What if I don’t have a laser yet?” here:

Bottom line, setup a placeholder laser. If you are already familiar with what laser you plan to get, go with that.
