GRBL Laser not burning with $32=1

Hi all,
I’m a new user to the laser world, I bought a 3018PRO from banggood with a 5500mw laser to have some fun with it.

And I want to make some wood engraved labels, after getting the hang of the software, I noticed that the text is chained by the laser line, so I took to the forums to see what the problems was and I found that I should change the $32 value from 0 to 1, but once I do that, the laser doesn’t burn anymore.

If i turn it back to 0, it works, but have that nagging line, any ideas on how to fix this ?

My settings:
Grbl 1.1f [’$’ for help]

Thank you for your time.

So the issue seams to be the speed.
With 32 set 0 , it burns at speed 6000 / power 40% , but with value set to 1 i have to use speed 600 / power 45% , it’s 10 times slower. Is that normal ?

Try setting $30=255 and then in Lightburn set S-value max to 255 as well. If your board supports variable power you want $32=1.

No, it doesn’t - It burns at a speed of 1000 mm/min, as dictated by the maximum speed settings in the firmware ($110 and $111).

When you set $32=1, it’s using variable power based on the speed of the movement. Since you’re asking it to go 6 times faster than it is allowed to, it lowers the power by a factor of 6 instead, to make the burn result exactly what you asked for.

Thanks for clarifing on how everything works.
