Gum Arabic tile etching

Very sorry for the confusion my 85 years old brain lets me down quite often these days. 50g is the correct amount. I purchased 50g on eBay and use all of it to make a large quantity which filled a jam jar. I’m still using it. See Cat on Tile in Finished Creations that I posted just recently.

After attending the LBX conference, I am keen to try TiO2. The recipe posted here looks detailed . . . but there are YouTube videos which simply call for something like a 50-50 mix of TiO2 and Isopropyl alcohol applied with a spray bottle. (https://youtu.be/Miz1R1x4v6g?si=elwRi4eeliYypBkM) Has anyone tried all these methods to compare them?

Weight or volume?

:smile_cat:

We seem to keep asking that same question, no?

LOL. I was just quoting the YouToober. He did it by volume and rather imprecisely, showing a plastic bottle with Sharpie marker on the sides. Very rough, but it apparently worked well for him.

I saw another video which had the recipe of 100 mL alcohol and 2 TBS of TiO2 in a spray bottle. Sprayed 3 coats, let dry, and I think 45% power at 80 mm.sec (but of course settings variable per laser).

I have some TiO2 ordered and will give some of these methods a try.

From what I understand, it is really not all that critical, except getting an even coat. I tried the Alcohol+TiO2 mix and it was great until the downdraft of the laser cooling fan came on. Turns out the dry coating is the same as if you just sprinkled the TiO2 on the tile. I got a pretty white cloud and not much else.

I think white acrylic paint or white Elmer’s glue would be the best binder if you want a water removable coating. Plan on doing a lot of experimenting.

Looks like a decent recipe, using brush instead of sprayer. About to go out and try it.

Probably the easiest of all the mixes I have seen. I might start messing with tiles again!
