I’m trying to close out some areas in the Nike logo and I’ve tried what I’ve seen online but still struggling to get all the shapes separate so they are burns separately and most the videos don’t answer the question of adding a line and getting it so the shapes separate in their own group. any help be amazing thank you
There are 50+ links from this forum that discuss the closed shapes issues. A quick search in the tool bar :

Without an example of WHAT you are working on, we cannot possibly guess where you are having issues.
Please, help us to help you.
Before you begin to manipulate items, it is critical that you understand the GROUP and UNGROUP functions, as well as the difference between the red and the green selection boxes that appear when you click and drag to select.

Ok! There is a distinct style of communication that the Internet has evolved for discussion forums.
The hive-mind will tackle issue. Please be more specific about what your difficulty is. I prefer to explain the process, rather than return a completed file in spirit of “Give a man a fish” vs. teach him to catch his own fish.
Do you know how to grab a screen shot? Press Shift+windows+S. That will open a tool that you can drag a box around any part of the computer screen. When youleft click that selection box, it will take a picture and put it into the “clipboard” memory. Press CTRL+V to paste that picture into the forum.
Here is where your logo is broken…
It is the 3 way problem… Shapes cannot have a 3 way intersection and be closed. The program cannot determine which direction to go at a 3 or more way intersection.
Break the E and the A away from the swoosh - close the E the A and the Swoosh - then bring them back together where you want them.
Note - there is still an open shape between the K and the E.
Zoom in on the lowest point. Nudge the nodes together - if you are working in the FILL mode, you will see the shape as a solid color when the nodes are touching.
ouhhh ok I see. I did try drawing my own lines to separate everything but it didn’t work but looking at how you did it I’m going to try and please bear with me im more of a hands on type person with directions over the phone than reading instructions. if you saw what i did for a living you would understand. words on a computer do no justice for hands on learning. but I’m going to give this a try, and I’ll see if I understood fully.
What I find weird is that all the other swooshes on your file are complete. The only one with this problem is the one in the middle of the page.
Still, a good learning experience, but unnecessary due to several copies already existent that do not have the fatal flaw.
Worked like a charm. thanks a lot Jim really appreciate you time helping me get this… question how come when I break the shape and try and add a line it doesn’t complete the shape, I notice I had to break the shape and extend the existing line to reconnect.
Glad to know we were able to help you
I Can’t say why what you tried didn’t work. Sorry. I tend to throw a lot of different things at the problem until I get the results I am after. I do not retain the things that did not work.
Next step is for you to master the Boolean tools.
Go get’em Tiger.
