Hi everyone, I don’t understand why this is happening; suddenly all my engravings have their Y axis reversed, printing from the far side of my machine towards me. The usual culprit, the $3 setting, is not the issue as the second bit of $3 is 0, as it has always been. Changing it to 1 would reverse my jog direction, which is not what I need. Whenever I issue a G0/G1 Yx command, x has to be reversed for it to go in the correct direction. Does anyone know of any other setting that could cause this?
If you changed your machine origin position in device settings to the wrong corner it will print mirrored, flipped or both depending on which corner you select. Typically it should be left front corner for diode machines.
If you are talking about G53, I have not touched nor have I seen any clear explanation on what it should be set for various preferences, in case I or the machine changed its setting by mistake.
I see, so with that set that way which direction will it printing when say you print a material test test from Laser Tools->Material Test, will it print starting from near you and advance to the back of the machine or visa vasa, How about when printing the individual lines within a box, does it start left->right then left again for the next line within the individual box?
The machine origin controls how it interacts with the coordinate system. That is the HOME position and will never change.
The job origin is a user defined / changeable parameter in the laser panel. CNC machines sometimes act different than a dedicated GRBL Laser machine. Whether or not you have limit switches makes a difference as well. There are other users that are well versed on using a laser on a CNC. I only know what I’ve read from others regarding that.
This video may help your understanding of the origins and start from modes. It shows how having the machine origin set incorrectly affects your outcome.
