Home position and origin

Hi I have a k40 and before I changed the controller I was using k40 whisperer. When cutting and engraving etc the laser would start from the home position top left. Now homing and origin are two complete different positions. Endstops (home ) top left origin (0,0) bottom left.
This greatly reduces the working area of my machine.

How would I manage to get my homing position and origin to be top left. Surely it is possible

This has nothing to do with the working area of your machine. The firmware settings for the length of each axis are what controls the cutting area of the machine, and nothing else. Change those, and change the page size in LightBurn to match them.

So the bed size length and width are the same settings im wanting to start my cut from the top left but it starts from bottom left. This seems to give the impression the the actual working area has moved down top the bottom of the machine

What “Start From” setting are you using?

Where the laser starts from also has no bearing on the size of the work area. That would be a bit like saying if you exit your house from the front door instead of the back door, your yard is smaller. It doesn’t work that way.

I suspect what’s happening is that you’re not used to how the positioning modes in LightBurn work. Read here in case that’s it: https://lightburnsoftware.github.io/NewDocs/CoordinatesOrigin.html

Okay thats great I use absolute but can we not start the work from the top instead of the bottom ?

What sort of “the work” are you referring to? Is it vector shapes or a picture?

You can start from anywhere you like by jogging the laser there first. You can specify the starting point for vector cuts using the ‘Start point’ edit tool:

If you are engraving a picture, you actually want it to start from the bottom and work backwards, because smoke is vented from the rear of the machine, and pulling fresh smoke across the previously engraved area will stain it. If you still want to do it, change the ‘Scan angle’ for the image to 180 degrees to run it from top to bottom.

Ah thanks didnt know about the start point tool. Thats great.
