Homing during run to reduce error accumulation?

We run 100+ part engraving arrays and would like to add homing steps every 5-15 units to “reset” 0,0 to reduce accumulated error/drift. Is there a way to do that by either inserting homing steps mid-run or auto-sequencing smaller runs?

Opinion: that seems like the real problem, because a correctly operating CNC machine should never lose track of its coordinates. Resetting it every now and then says you’re willing to ship whatever errors it makes, which is customer hassle in the making.

Admittedly, 3D printers home their axes before every job, because OG printers were rickety plywood boxes with no thought to mechanical stability. Even midrange CO₂ lasers should run all day after their initial power-on homing; K40 versions might not be that stable.

What sort of errors are you seeing?
