Homing Fail ALARM:8 Needing Help!

I just finished setting up my K40+ OmTech and Downloaded the software for LightBurn. I’ve successfully added my laser and have done hours of research within this forum as well as online elsewhere with no luck. I honestly don’t know where to start so I will copy and paste what I’m dealing with. I’ve ran into 3 separate alarm/error codes. But to keep this simple, I will post this.

I’m completely lost. Can anyone fix this. Thank you in advance.

I assume you’ve already checked what’s listed here:

After quickly checking the parameters you set, I would start by significantly reducing the value of $25 just to see if the problem occurs in the same location. If it does occur in the same location, I would look for electrical faults at the connector level, split wires, short circuits, insulation problems, etc…

That’s a first approach.

Checking the status of the limit switches would also be important.

It looks like homing does not work. If you click on the home button, does it try to move?

I’m looking further into the link you sent me. In the meantime, could you please explain what $25 value means? My K40+ is operating on MM/sec and the work area shown on the honeycomb is 350mm (x-axis) by 270mm (y-axis). It’s also worth noting that my laser will not travel the full length of the number shown both x,y axis. Moving the laser manually, I can eyeball that laser to about 320mm (X) and 245mm (Y). I was able to perform a Material card test last night after posting this. The laser automatically homes to the back left, but upon further research setting my origins to Front left seemed to help for some reason. Could there be an issue with my (Y) axis being inverted?

When I click home the laser moves to the back left (auto home) and bumps off twice and the Console says “ok”.

Then everything works fine. I guess you enabled “auto home at startup”, but since the laser was not ready yet, it did not respond, and homing failed.

$25 is the fast speed used to find the homing position. All values in the firmware are stored in mm/min, regardless of which units you use in LightBurn.

It’s quite common that the workspace size is a little smaller than advertised. I will check with my K40+ once I have time.

You need to set the origin to the upper left if everything is correct. My K40+ works as expected without any firmware changes.

So working through the Alarms and Errors. I placed a box in Lightburn and clicked frame. This is what I get. Also if I choose to unlock $X and click frame again the laser tries to move back further which causes the laser to make a loud noise. Assuming its trying to move beyond its limits, I click stop.

Switch from User Origin to Absolute Coords. Then the laser will go where the drawing is placed.

Once this happens, the controller does not know where the laser module is located. You must use the Home button again.

I have switched to Absolute Coords and I am still running into Alarm:1. Clicking home seems to work. But when I click frame, I get Alarm 1 again.

Then you have an issue with the limit switches itself. One of them gets triggered during motion. Alarm 1 tells that. Check if all cables are ok. You can test by moving the head somewhere to the center and then send the question mark command (?). Post the output.

Moved the laser to approx. center and took the screenshot.

Returns to home just fine when I click home.

Contacted Customer Support through OmTech, We have concluded to a solution below.

To fix this issue, up on the menu bar,

  • Click > Laser Tools > Machine Settings (at the bottom).
  • Under Property, scroll down to the blue tab labeled Outputs Setup, Click > Outputs Setup. *A message will pop up about the security of your machine. Click > Yes/Continue.
  • Scroll down to (Y Direction pin invert ($3)). To the right, Click to show > FALSE.
  • Immediately under this, (Y Homing direction invert ($23)). Click to show > True.
  • At the bottom of the open screen, Click > Write.
  • Then Click > OK.
  • Job well done.

Thanks by clarifying!
I only come here once a day.

@Ttrent
Based on the solution provided by the manufacturer (which will be the one considered first), I believe it’s a lack of parameterization on the manufacturer’s part. It shouldn’t happen, but it does.

Most important it is solved. :+1:

@Ttrent Sorry for just getting to this. Wanted to see if the help you received from the other users were able to get your issue resolved?
