Laser will not home. The “Z” axis moves for a short distance in the correct direction and then stops.
Homing is managed by the controller itself. If it’s not homing, there’s a configuration issue of some kind. Does the console say anything? It will generally give you a GRBL error code that you can Google for a translation.
