How do I evenly space objects within a frame?

I am struggling to evenly space several objects within a frame

Have you tried this tool?

Does this help?

What i usually do is lets say i have a 12 x 12 piece of wood and i want to place 20 items inside. I drawl a 12 x12 square and manually place all my parts inside. Once happy i delete the square and cut. Just do a frame to make sure you are happy with it.

It will align the objects vertically, but not horizontally

Blue - vertical
orange - horizontal
green - both

I must be doing something wrong; I can select say five squares inside a rectangle (the rectangle is also selected) and evenly space them horizontally, but it will not evenly space them verticaly

Post a screen capture so we can see what is happening.

I am fairly new at this, I don’t even know how to do a screen shot other than with my Iphone!

Select your internal rectangles and try these options.

There are various ways that you can perform a screenshot. Not all work on all systems so it can take a bit of trial and error to find a method that works. Try holding down the following three keys on your keyboard: WinKey+Shift+S. This should invoke Windows Snip & Sketch where you can choose to take a complete screenshot, a single window, a rectangular area or freeform area. You can then optionally annotate it and paste it directly into your post.

Hi, your rectangles aren’t grouped are they ?
If they are, try ungrouping them.

Thanks for the tip. this is what I get when I try to equally space vertically

they are not

Try horizontal.

Vertical should work. It does for me.

It does only if I select the objects within the frame, but then the left and right spaces aren’t the same as the others. If I select the frame and the boxes inside the frame, I get even spaces left and right, but larger space in the center.

Ok, select the inside and space them. Then group those 4. Then select everything and use the bulls eye to centre everything.

Great!, thanks for your help!
