How do I fix this water problem?

I was going along cutting twill for the embroidered patches I make when suddenly the Omtech K40+ stopped cutting right in the middle of the job. The only thing I can see that’s different from usual is that the display panel on the top of the machine says: laser signal ON, water protection OFF. The mA stays at zero.

But the little red button works to operate the beam and burn a hole.

I can hear the little pump buzzing along as usual, so it seems to be trying to pump water. Where else should I look to fix this?

Or is the water even the problem? Seems like it would be.

Update: I pulled the hoses off the pump, and it’s pushing water ferociously, and the return is returning it to the tank. Could the machine just erroneously “think” there is no water?

Yes, these sensor can fail. Mine did, looks like this, yours may not … it’s just a pressure sensor.

You’ll have to check the device that determines it’s flowing for correct operation.

On these, they are usually connected to the P terminal of the laser power supply. When you have coolant flow, it pulls P to ground. I don’t recommend an override, that how things get broken.. fix the issue.

I really don’t know these, or at least what’s on the panel. It appears it thinks the coolant isn’t flowing.

:smiley_cat:

Could it be this? This is the closest thing to yours that I see in there.

The machine is less than a year old, and I rarely use it, so if this is the part maybe I can get them to send me a replacement? Is that wishing for a miracle? LOL

SOLVED!!

I followed the red wires into the wiring harnesses, and saw that one went to a little switch underneath the honeycomb tray. This switch is pushed when the cleaning/crap collecting drawer of the of the machine is all the way in the machine. It must have been out by about a quarter of an inch, because I just tried it again, making sure the drawer was flush with the front of the machine, and can report a success. Woohoo, now I can work again.

Anyone with an Omtech K40+ please pay attention your drawers.
