how to assign a negative layer and positive layer in the same image in Lightburn

Welcome, Glen, and thank you for your inquire. As I read, there are several ways I could interpret this. If you would, please share a bit more of what you intend to produce, what you mean when saying “image” (raster-like a picture or vector-line drawings or a combo of both), and a sample of the results you are after. Help us ‘see’ along with you, and we can go from there.

Hi Rick, Thanks for the reply. I have a png file of the Audi Logo.

I would like to laser the text (Audi) as a negative image and the rings as a positive image ( normal image ). How to I set the layers to do this in one pass?

Negative image…that means that you want to engrave the background but not the text, right?

Set up a layer with fill. Take the text, put it in the same layer. Draw a closed shape (like a box) around the text in that same filled layer.

In a single layer, shapes are kind of logically filled from the outside in, so that, in this case, the box will be engraved and filled, but the text part won’t be filled. Except that if you have a letter with an enclosed closed shape, like an “O”, the enclosed shape will be filled.

Now if you have the text as an image, well, I would outline the text, and then use the outline.

For your other image, I would create a second layer with my usual image settings for the material.

Does this address your issue?
