How to close objects to allow fill

So I had to pretty much redraw a fire dept. patch and apparently as I was attempting to trace it and or re-create it some of my objects are not “closed”. When I select them only part of them select (I can hold “shift” and select the other parts but that does not solve the “not closed” problem. How can I join the two parts so they “close”? The “weld” icon is not selectable…I am confused…go figure… TIA

upload your Lightburn file if you want to.

Note that Trace will only generated closed paths so the issue is likely going to be in something you generated manually.

I am more than willing to but would also like to learn how to fix it so I do not have to bother the fine folks on here with my lack of knowledge.

I am quite sure it is my fault, just looking for some tutelage on how to fix it

You can fix it yourself, but if you are asking for help, it is hard for someone else to tell what is wrong with your file without looking at it.

I gotcha, I am trying to upload it now…technology and I do not communicate well…
Bills Creek Patch DeBlander_backup.lbrn2 (2.8 MB)

There is 30 or so objects that are “not closed”…but I suppose you have already figured that out…thanks for taking a look and helping me out…

There was a similar question posed the other day. While there are a multitude of reasons why something might not be closed the fundamentals remain the same.

Suggest you read over this while RU reviews the file.

That makes sense to my simple mind, but my shapes are all just regular nodes, to my knowledge there are not any “three way nodes” needed…?..

Do they form an unbroken continuously joined set of line segments forming a loop? If not, it’s not closed.

When you zoom in, you can see where things aren’t connected. The easiest way to connect them is to drag a endpoint of a line/shape that is disconnected, and then snap it back to the endpoint that it was nearest to. There are a lot of disconnected areas.

So I am slowly figuring out, currently while awaiting a solution from someone way smarter than me on here I am taking each piece that is “not closed” and tracing it with the pencil icon to re-create it and then move it in place

So I tried moving nodes so they were on the disconnected part, that did not work, so I apparently do not, yet again, understand…go figure. What does the end point look like (is there an icon/symbol for it?) And how do I “snap it back”? Thank you for all your help!!!

All of your shapes are okay, you don’t have to move anything, you need to select the adjoining segments and use Auto Join.
The tool is found in the edit drop down menu

That only worked for a couple of shapes.

I just tried the Auto join on the E letter and it did not fix my issue…

Now try close path on the same letter

You have to select the “Edit Nodes” button. Then you can see the nodes. Note the green squares. You should only see one of them on a shape if the lines are connected.

That worked, Thank you!!!
