How to connect a milliammeter

Good morning friends, I come for my daily dose of information, I was reading that amperage meters can be adapted to, I would like to know if anyone has a connection diagram, thank you very much in advance.

Any general advice you get without providing the laser machine model can be dangerous and may damage the machine.

In general, you splice the milliammeter into the tube’s cathode lead, so that all of the tube current passes through the meter. The cathode lead is generally close to the circuit ground / frame ground potential.

However, if the cathode wire becomes disconnected from the meter, the tube current will find a path to the frame, which will involve arcing and present a shock hazard. Be certain all the connections cannot come loose.

Some very high-power lasers have both positive and negative high voltage supplies, so the cathode lead operates at the same potential and opposite polarity as the anode lead. You cannot connect a milliammeter in that type of laser, because the high voltage on the cathode lead will destroy the meter and possibly the power supply, as well as present a severe shock hazard.

What laser do you have and what does the tube cathode lead look like?

They are 170w tubes, the machine is Chinese, but each tube comes with a regulator (variable resistance), I assumed that regulator was for the power, although I see that they regulate it from a controller

This is an opinion, rather than a fact.

I think a machine with multiple high power laser tubes is complex enough that you should not attempt to install a milliammeter in the cathode lead of any of the tubes.

Someone with direct experience modifying a similar laser machine may have better advice, but I recommend you should not depend on generic recommendations appropriate for lower power, single tube machines.

The correct title for the person you need is Electronics Technician.

One who knows the principles and has respect for the details, based on a few relevant mistakes.

You are right, I looked for one in India and he helped me equivalent to $10 in his currency and it worked well, he was guiding me by video call. xd
