I have this color logo from my Gasparilla Krewe, I have tried engraving this a couple times but it just not coming out to my liking, I have converted to black and white but still doesn’t looks good. Any suggestions?
A laser “engraves” in shades of gray (or brown or whatever the material allows), so you may want to convert the image to grayscale before sending it to LightBurn. This will let you to control how the colors become grays, rather then depending on LightBurn’s automation.
Some color-to-gray conversions using GIMP:
The tools are:
- Original image for comparison
- Mono Mixer
- Desaturate
- Color to Gray
All of those tools have (many!) controls to adjust the conversion process and change the output, but I just used the defaults. I have no idea where the odd background came from in the last image …
I have the same problem. Considering a laser is just an on-off device, controlling shades of grey is a real pain. You will make a lot of rejects before you get it “just right”.
What part of Tampa Bay? Pinellas Co. here.
I am assuming you have access to PhotoShop or similar.
I change all colored images to black & white, no Greyscale, then Shadows and Highlights. I may do more than one of shadows & highlights since I prefer keeping it on default settings. Gives you more control over the image.
What Laser are you using?
