How to set the proper Cutting depth

I am new to Lightburn. I am running version LightBurn 1.6.00 and am trying to use this on a OMTech Polar 50w laser. The laptop I am using is a Dell Alienware running Windows 11. I Have not been able to figure out how to set the correct material thickness. I have tried to even create a OMTech Material Test Card using a file provided by OMTech but it only engraves a piece it. I assume it is because I don’t have the material thickness set correctly or set at all. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bob

A laser only damages thing or engraves. If it engraves deep enough, either by increase of power or slowing the axes that damage or engraving is deeper. Eventually that increasing depth will result in a cut.

I have a scrap piece of material. Run it over the edge and you can see how deep the resulting line is…

I do this all the time when I make something with magnets to stick on metal… deep enough to position and glue the magnets.
