Image engraved is taller and thinner that what is seen in Lightburn

Hello all,

As you can see from the pictures I have my image nice in Lightburn but on the Chuck engraving it looks more tall and thin. Do I have some setting wrong in Lightburn?

Have you calibrated the rotary?

If not, you will need to in order to retain aspect ratio.

  1. Make sure that the “mm per rotation” setting is configured such that you get one complete rotation when pushing the test button.
  2. Did you measure the object’s diameter or circumference? If not, that needs to be properly measured and input. One or the other.

Also, make sure rotary function is enabled when you begin the burn.

Often times this is an optical illusion due to the image being wrapped around a cylinder.
To verify, take a soft tape measure and measure your engraving in both directions and compare to the image in Lightburn. It should measure the same as Lightburn in both directions. If it doesn’t your calibration is off. If it does measure the same, it’s the optical illusion I spoke of.
This video will help explain the effect and how to counter it.

MM/Rotation and Circumference were the keys to straightening it out. Thank you
