Imported files from Illustrator

A question hope someone can explain…normally when i import an AI file from illustator all is ok…i can import as a big group or not…BUT sometimes i have a file where there are multiple items that i want grouped within the file and cut in one go…i can do this by importing the file then setting the groups in lightburn which is a pain in the ring

is there a way to force the individual shapes from AI to be a group in LB

hope the picture helps make sense

you could rasterise the shape in AI and then image trace (set to ignore white) and that should solve the problem. If that’s what you’re meaning

Groups in AI are supported in LightBurn, however, Illustrator doesn’t export grouping information for the PDF preview data in the AI file. If you’re using Illustrator 2020 and saving with the ‘Use Compression’ option, they changed compression methods to something that isn’t supported yet, so we fall back to importing the PDF preview data in the file.

If you turn off ‘Use Compression’ or export to a slightly older (legacy) format, you should get whatever groups were in the AI file itself.

thanks yep worked this out last night

do you know if you can set the dont use compression as a save default…i cant seem to work out how?

I don’t know - I don’t have this version of Illustrator. My plan is to figure out the new compression method, but it’s not super high priority because there are easy workarounds.
