Improving 3D effect on eagle engraving (20W diode, poplar plywood)

I made this 3D-looking eagle engraving on 3mm poplar plywood (20W diode laser).

I used Atkinson, 317 DPI, 4000 mm/min and 40% power.

I’m pretty happy with the result, but I feel like I’m losing some depth and fine detail.

What would you adjust to improve the 3D effect?

Would you switch to another mode, like Jarvis, or change the DPI/power?

From what I see, it looks pretty good already. Your “3D effect” is not by playing with shadows, but actually burning a depth in the wood. I am betting you used Greyscale. If so, you might add more “depth” with more passes. But I doubt you will improve the visual effect much. And you can go only so deep into 3mm wood. :joy:

This video does a great job explaining the difference between the basic image modes and grayscale in LightBurn:

That’s a really nice bit of work, the shading is great. Have you tried any lower dpi?
