Initial download to Mac 10.15.7 - wont allow

Trying to download lightburn for New Totem S laser engraver with Mac laptop 10.15.7 OS.!
I am following the procedures from the website, but get this message: “Lightburn cant be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software”…" This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information"

Can you help me get this software? (I’m on a production deadline & need an answer fast).

We discuss this exact issue here: Installation & Setup - LightBurn Software Documentation

MacOS Installation

Installing on the Mac is simple, but requires you tell MacOS that you trust us. LightBurn is digitally signed, but Apple has added a new process called ‘Notarization’ that we have not completed yet.

Click here for a step-by-step video walkthrough: https://youtu.be/nH3rSbmn-H4

To Install the LightBurn application:

  1. Double-click the LightBurn.dmg file to mount the disk image.
  2. Drag the LightBurn application into your applications folder
  3. Eject the LightBurn disk image, or drag it to the trash bin

When launching LightBurn for the first time:

  1. Open a Finder window
  2. Browse to the ‘Applications’ folder
  3. Hold the Control key and click the LightBurn icon, or right-click or / two-finger tap the icon
  4. Choose ‘Open’ from the menu
  5. When MacOS asks if it should open the program, say yes, and it will be listed as an exception in your launcher. From then on you can just launch the application normally.

Rick, I actually got the program loaded(by manipulating the security settings), but now my computer shuts down & restarts when I plug in my usb to my Totems S laser engraver. Any thoughts?

Are you saying the mere act of plugging in a USB cable, causes the Mac to reboot? That is not something I have heard of before. Does this happen with any USB device, or just this TwoTrees laser?

Yep. About 10 times now. With or without the power cord to the Totem S plugged in. Clearly, my Mac does NOT like the engraver. I don’t know if Lightburn is involved at all.

Easy way to test this. Reboot the Mac and do not launch LightBurn. Try the same procedure you previously did and see if you get the same results. It is highly unlikely LightBurn is doing anything that would cause the computer to reboot.
