Intermittent cutting of acm plastic film

I am using acm panels for signs by cutting the protective film to make stencils for applying paint. I have a 10 optical watt diode laser. When I do a cut, I am getting random parts of text that do not cut. I have observed as it cuts and see no change in laser intensity when it happens. There is a faint line where it dies not cut. If i recut, it works. Any ideas what would cause this.

You leave out a lot of information…

  1. When you recut, do you remove the panel to examine it first?
  2. Is the protective coating clear?
  3. Is the protective coating colored?
  4. Is the protective coating plastic, paper, or a combination?
  5. Is the ACM perfectly flat?
  6. What happens when you increase the power somewhat?
