Is it possible to use Lightburn with my Laserstar MOPA Fiber Laser

I have a Laserstar 60W laser that came with their STARFX software. The Lightburn software seems so much more intuitive and easy to use. I’m afraid to just try and use it and risk destroying a very expensive laser so thought I’d ask here if anyone has used Lightburn over STARFX in a Laserstar laser.

My suggestion is to contact the manufacturer of your laser. I gave their website a quick look and didn’t see where they mention Lightburn compatability, so I kind of doubt it.

Most manufacturers use Lightburn compatability as a selling point and they don’t mention it.

Some use the word “compatible” rather loosely … :bomb:

In simple terms if the controller in your MOPA will run under EZCad2, then it should work with Lightburn.

In either case, it shouldn’t hurt you machine as it likely won’t be able to talk to it if it’s not compatible.

Do you have a configuration file for your machine? That needs to be imported for Lightburn and the machine to be configured properly and work.

I hate to sound like a moron but how do I know what kind of controller it has? Galvo, GRBL etc…?

You’re not… However the stock software appears to be proprietary, so Lightburn likely won’t talk to the contoller.

The only way to ensure what control board it has is to open the case and take a photo of it and post it here. Someone here might be able to ID the card.

My board that runs Lightburn and EZCad2 is made by JCZ in China.
