I’m slowly learning. Just today upgraded to the newest Lightburn software and am using the Roly MK2 laser. I have three pictures that reflect my concern.
First I created my jig and then, since I strugged a bit with getting proper alignment of the circles within the squares of the jig (using the + & - arrow at the top), I finally just aligned each individual circle within each square (image 1). Then I placed the wooden cubes within each square of the jig and notice how much the circles moved off center (image 2). Lastly I typed five individual letters, using different fonts and centered each letter in a circle (image 3). Based on what I’m seeing am I supposed to somehow recalibrate the camera or something? I’ve done the update overlay.
Secondly, I thought since this was scrap wood I’d go ahead and engrave these four letters and see what it looks like, but the laser began to engrave the actual circles firstly. I can’t seem to figure out how to turn off all the circles so that just the letters will be engraved.
Camera distortion is a fact of life. See how the image is offset to the left and the right on either side? Under the camera control box, there are settings to SHIFT and to STRETCH the image. once the burn and the camera line up, be sure to SAVE you tweaked settings.
Use a carboard scap to run your tests. Amazon boxes work great, as do Post Office priority boxes.
Yes, you have. Be aware, the camera calibration is only valid at the calibrated distance! If you change the height of your objects, you need to recalibrate to that height again. In your case, you would need to create a jig where the dice can fall into, such that they are aligned with the top of the jig. Then calibrate to the jig plane. See here for information on how the camera works:
There is a theory block that explains the principle:
Well, this is very helpful. Just got back from aligning each individual letter over the block using the update overlay and the engrave was still way off. Your point here helps me get educated on the ‘height of the object’ aspect. I’ll go study more. Thanks again.
