Hi all, im not sure if this is a sculpfun issue or a lightburn issue but I created a project and using the sculpfun cam500, I had it perfectly aligned but when the project was done, it wasnt only just off in positioning, but the whole project was bigger. I have had to redo this project 7 or 8 times and modify to remove the circle frame because the positioning was completely off despite being perfect on the screen. I also traced the material to use as a positioning anchor and ran the laser on cardstock but the whole circle became bigger again, despite being the perfect size and aligned perfectly. I have recalibrated and realigned the camera several times but this seems to be happening a lot. Can anyone help please?
Measure the output of the laser. Is the actual size burned the same size as the project dimensions? If it is, it’s a camera alignment / calibration issue. If it’s not the same size as the project, it’s a machine calibration issue.
I don’t use a camera, and one of the biggest reasons for that is that you have to calibrate the camera for every thickness of material you use. That’s because a thicker material is closer to the lens and with the camera field of view being conical the caibration will be incorrect.
This does not apply to machines with adjustable bed height, where the material surface is (should be) always the same in relation to the focus distance, which is the same as your camera is calibrated for.
Correct, but she is working with a Sculpfun diode which does not have an adjustable bed.
On my C02 laser, I have several different lenses with different focal lengths, so I would still need a calibration for each different lens.
I will calibrate my camera in this case to the height that I mostly work with or use different calibration profiles. That should give the desired precision.
Of course, this also applies to your machine when you change lenses/focus distance, 3 profiles made once and for all and then you are quickly running again with your laser.
