Issue with scan line shifts in image burns

I’m having a really weird issue that I haven’t been able to find elsewhere in this forum. While engraving, randomly throughout an engrave job, the laser will sort of reset its x axis alignment and shift a slice of the image left or right. I’m using an ortur laser master 2. Anyone ever seen anything like this? The belts all seem snug but not tight- they deflect about 6-10mm when poked with my index finger. I can’t see how squareness could be an issue here, but maybe? Is there some setting I’m missing?

In the hank hill here, you can see how the dithering just above the chin line skips right and comes out of alignment, and on the Garfield you can see where the letters are cut and shifted and the cat has a misalignment issue at the eyelids and cheeks.

I’m at a loss for sure.

Bump. Anyone?

Looks to me like what they call in 3d printing ‘Layer-shifting’ could be caused by a loose grub screw in one of the pulleys connected to the X stepper-motor.
Check if the pulley has play on the axis of the stepper-motor, if yes, align the pulley properly on the flat piece on the shaft, and tighten the grub screws.

Hope for you that is the issue, then you can resolve it quickly.

Thanks for the reply. I disassembled the x axis parts and found that one grub screw was loose, one that holds an L-bracket on that supports the inside corner of the aluminum extrusion. It comes pre-installed from Ortur, so they really should have had it snug to begin with. It doesn’t do much since there’s a 5mm bolt holding those parts together as well, but I tightened it and ran a series of burns with the same result. I’d like to get ortur support to see this. I’ve submitted a ticket and am going to return this piece of trash if I can’t get this issue worked out.

bump, Ortur team please respond

In your console window can you type

press enter and put here the output?

Gil and I are discussing the issue via email. I will update this thread with any progress.

If anyone is having a similar issue, my $i output is as follows:

As far as I can tell from other forum sources, the 185 on line 5 refers to firmware version 1.85.

This is relevant to the following. I’m having an issue where the laser stops moving at around 70% of the way through a job. I get the Alarm 3 error that I think was addressed in the firmware version 1.4. However, my laser master 2, when viewed in the lightburn console, shows that the 1.85 firmware is installed. I think this is the pro model firmware, installed on my not pro model Lasermaster 2. I’ve also attached an image showing that display. The exact model I bought is the “ORTUR Laser Master 2,Laser Engraver,Laser Engraving Cutting Machine,DIY Laser Marking for Metal ,Compresed Spot CNC,32-bit Motherboard LaserGRBL(LightBurn),Eye Protection Fixed-Focus,400x430mm (LU2-4)” on Amazon.

What was the outcome of all this and results from Otur?
Thanks

I returned the unit and got a pro. No issues with the pro at all.
