So, I am working on a Mac running macOS 10.15.7. I live in Japan and want to make items with Japanese text. When I have my computer set for Japanese text input and begin typing, nothing appears until I hit return (enter). This is a problem with Japanese input as you need to convert the text you type into various kanji. This problem is specific to LightBurn as I am able to do this with any other software I regularly use. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I have screen recordings (movies) of this available if I can upload them here.
It’s been a while since I tried inputting Japanese text in LightBurn on Mac. I don’t remember it being a particular problem but I also did not do it much as most design was done outside of LightBurn.
However, I’m able to do this in Windows. As you say, input is not displayed in-program and kanji conversion is not done as-in other programs. However, I’m able to choose kanji conversion in my IME and the final choice will be inputted into LightBurn.
Long story short… it’s not the normal behavior but it does work.
It seems patience is needed for using Japanese in LightBurn. In other programs on my computer the conversion happens live and at the point of text entry. If I could figure out how to load up files here, I’d show a video of how Japanese text input normally happens in most Mac apps.
