Job origin not working

Hi,

I am having trouble setting a job origin.

I have read—and re-read, multiple times—the Coordinates and Job
Origin section of the User Doc. I’ve watched several YouTube videos. I
think I understand the intended differences between Current Position,
Job Origin, and Absolute Coords.

I’ve been using LightBurn for the past week and it was working, but now
it’s not.

I have an AtomStack A10 Pro v2 with a G-Code (GRBL) controller, and I
run LightBurn on a Windows 10 machine.

In the Move tab, I am able to position the laser at the lower right
corner of my workpiece and set the origin to that location, then, on the
Laser tab, home the machine and return to the origin correctly using the
Home and Go to Origin buttons.

But then things go haywire. When I hit either of the Frame buttons with
the “Start from” menu set to Absolute Coords, the laser zooms to the far
horizontal limit of my machine and triggers an out of bounds alarm. By
zoom, I mean travel at full speed regardless of the Speed setting on the
Move tab (the speed setting is honored when homing or seeking the origin).

If I choose User Origin and send the laser to the origin location, the
Frame button appears to work, but when the job intiated with the Start
button, the image is engraved about a half-inch too far to the
north—which pushes the northern edge of the image half an inch north
of the upper edge of the tag I’m trying to engrave.

Apparently, since this did work a couple of days ago, I have set
something wrong somewhere. But I cannot find what, or where to fix it.

Any pointers would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks.
Jerry

Did you home first? Before setting any user-defined origin, you need to home the laser first. Otherwise, you will have arbitrary positions. Do a homing cycle and check the move window which position is reported. If it homes to bottom-left, the position should be 0,0.

Please post a screenshot of your entire Lightburn screen with your project loaded and the Cuts/Layers Panel and Laser Panel visible. Also post a screenshot of the Settings Window (Gears icon) with the Units and Grids tab visible and post a screenshot of the Device Settings Window (Wrench and Screwdriver icon).

Yes, I home the laser frequently, every time I set the origin, every time (mostly) I frame or start the job. It always homes correctly, 0:0, and it always goes to the coordinates last set as origin. It’s when I hit the fire button that the craziness begins.

However, I am making progress. I am now able to home, set origin, return to origin, frame, and start the job at the right spot. Still have some issues, but they are not the ones I moaned about in the OP.

Since posting my original problem, I have discovered the File → Preferences → Load Prefs Backup command, which set me on the path to recovery.

I can now use Absolute Coordinates to match up my engraving/cut target material with my design in LightBurn so that hitting the Start fires the laser in the correct position.

So, I think I’m good on the problem described in the OP. I still have issues, and may be back to the forum for guidance later, but right now I’m good.
