Hello,
I’m about at the end of my rope and gonna launch a laser into a pond. I’ve got a eBay/omtech 50w co2 with a Ryxon KT332n controller attached to a iMac running Catalina. It will connect fine when I turn things on and stay good for a bit then disconnect. Pretty much the only consistent way to reconnect is to turn everything off for 30-60 minutes and come back. I’ve tried just about everything I can find and am hoping someone has a magic idea to try.
Pertinent info…
-Have a second omtech with ruida controller that does not have issues hooked up same way as this one.
Ryxon laser is connected to Mac by Ethernet, which runs through a router that is hardwired to the iMac.
replacing Ethernet cable did not work, also made routing of cable direct without going near any electronics.
machine is plugged into a circuit in room with other laser and chiller but it is a different circuit. I’ve tried plugging it in across the house completely and it still has issues.
-Upgraded lightburn this week to most recent and still have issues.
typically i can send jobs for about 10-15 minutes when it’s first turned on before I start having issues.
right clicking and shift clicking on devices on laser tab does not fix it.
The bought a bridge and installed it. It works at first but then has same issue with staying connected.
I’m leaning towards controller may be bad for one specific reason, every once in a while if I hit the menu buttons the “ip config” option is just not existent. I know I’m looking in the right spot and have not found any rhyme or reason to when it is gone. It being there does NOT seem to correlate with when the laser disconnects and won’t reconnect though.
Anyone have any ideas to try before I end up parting this machine out or just giving it the old
Office space printer treatment?
Thanks in advance!
Supposedly these are Ruida controllers… @ednisley has one of these animals, maybe he will drop in with a comment.
From your description, the controller is the likely suspect.
Although the Ruida uses UDP/IP instead of TCP/IP, Ethernet is very dependable. I use it exclusively with my Ruida and suggest others use it over the usb option. It is limited to about 100kb transfer rate, but that wouldn’t affect it disconnecting.
Ethernet is well protected against RFI/EMI radiation so after changing out cables, I don’t know what else is available.
Do you have a spare Raspberry PI laying around? You can get a Lightburn image that will allow it to run as a wireless bridge. It has software in it to deal with the UDP problems… You can get the image for free or you can buy their kit…
Not that I think this will fix it… just something that I’d suggest to try if you have a PI laying around unused.
Not any other suggestions from me, other than a PI or trying usb
Which has been utterly dependable, so I don’t have any experience with its failures.
However, the cables / jacks / wiring inside the machine are sketchy, to say the least.
Try plugging the network cable directly into the jack on the KT332N, rather than the jack on the side of the machine, to eliminate the internal patch connection.
Which doesn’t explain the vanishing IP config option. I ran a zip cord to the laser (we just moved and it’s inert), turned it on without the network cable plugged in, and the IP setting is present, so the controller does not change the menu options based on the cable.
If the direct cable doesn’t change anything, it sure seems like a bad controller: ugh.
Thanks guys, my gears seem to be getting confirmed. I will definitely try the cable directly into controller though. I think I tried that way back but can recall for sure. Most of my jobs for this machine had been load one file and run it a whole bunch so I just dealt with it but now I’ve changed gears and it’s a lot of one or two off jobs that I need to be able to stay connected for.
I have the lightburn bridge, it does the same thing as for as disconnecting. Actually trying to swap back and fourth from it was how I discovered the ipconfig setting being missing.
Fingers crossed it’s the internal cable…. Thanks again!
