Laser doesn't always fire during framing or with fire button

I’ve got a new atomstack x40 Max. I’ve been learning how to use the framing function in lightburn. I’ve adjusted the device settings to get it to work, however both the framing function and the fire button in lightburn only seems to work for a little while after the machine is powered up. I can usually use it to frame the first job. But after I run the job and go to set up another one, the laser does not fire for the framing operation at that point. It also doesn’t respond to the fire button. If I turn it off and let it sit off for a while, then it will work again. Any ideas?

EDIT. I should add that even if the laser didn’t fire during framing or with the fire button, If i go ahead and run a job anyhow, the laser will fire for the job.

If you increase the fire buttn level from - what i assume - is 1% to say 5% or more will the beam trigger
(make sure to raise your module so the beam is totally out of focus)

this could show a degradation of your diode or power delivery on the laser driver

I will try that tonight when I’m home. I didn’t go above 1% in testing. I’m still new at lasering and wasn’t sure what a safe number to use was. This is one of those multi-laser coupled designs. 8 diodes, with a physical power switch on the laser head to switch between a 24w or 48w mode, which i assume just disengages 4 of the diodes.

In a way same as the Co2s, the response of the Diode lasers to the power scale is not linear

This to say the response curve is very slow at anything below 10% and then it responds in an almost linear form to the 100%

The problem with that is if you have any level of degradation on the module, the 1% might not be enough to trigger the array anymore.
So by testing 2 3 4 5% etc you will see if that is the case.

I would imagine however if you had lost laser performance you would have noticed that you need to move slower or increase power to obtain the same results you had before?

You speak of degradation. This laser is 2 days old. I have under 30 minutes of engraving time on it so far. I would certainly hope that it’s not degrading already.

Hopefully is something else, but test will give you a clear clue
