Laser Enclosure for Ikier K1

Including this in Finished Creations because it was 100% cut on the laser (go Print & Cut!). The enclosure is for my Ikier K1 is roughtly 30"x30"x12". The design includes windows, side passthroughs, multiple tunable air intakes, a camera mount… basically any feature I could think of.

It’s definitely a budget build - I used 5mm underlayment as the lumber, stiffness is made by layering. I’d guess total cost would be around $100

It’s not really finished - need to cut a new pass through door, attache the camera, cut some new cable routing, add lights, etc. But it’s finished enough that it’s in use.

There are things I did really wrong: the passthrough doors don’t perfectly align with the cutting bed (I stupidly assumed it would be centered), there are places where I didn’t account for an inset (walls and lid are made of multiple layers of plywood), camera mount is not centered on cutting bed…

There are things I did a little wrong: Too much ventilation, I have (or will have) sliding covers and inserts to tune air intake as needed, but there’s just too much - a 30-50% reduction would make sense), I didn’t cut the cable cutouts high enough, I probably could have used less windows - maybe just one on the front), I should have made it taller - the air assist hose catches on the camera.

But, all is all I’m super happy with the end result, I love the sliding door passthroughs, and the two piece top is very usable. I’ll try to get cleaner photos soon.

Looks good. Curious, where did you get the window material? Laser safe is usually pretty expensive. I agree about less widows. I have a commercial enclosure and almost never use the top wondow.

Again looks great. Hope it serves you well.

It’s not truly laser safe - it’s orange plexi from Amazon. I bought a test piece and could barely see the laser through the material. Focused on through the material the laser would not mark, so I figured it was safe enough and used it for the windows.

The plan was to cover them in use or wear protective glasses. In reality I don’t do either - hence the wish for less windows. If I were to do it again (or when I do it again) I’d buy laser safe and go with 70% less window area.

Normally use is sitting down and there is no direct reflected beam path through a window to sitting height…

I have the Ikier foldable enclosure and the air intake is about 6 X 2 inches if that helps, also nice job
