Laser firing when PWM wire disconnected?

I hooked the mini gerbil 3 back up and took some more pics. I’m thinking it has to be the board but obviously I could be wrong.

Not sure how it would be the board if it does this without PWM connected.

Seems to me it’s likely to be related to the power connector.

Since all the wires are blue it’s not clear to me the relationship between the LPS and board.

Have you confirmed the individual wires are connected properly for this cable:

Also, what’s the situation with the white wires that are piggy backing onto those terminals?

Can you clarify the situation with the P&G connector? What is that wired into?

Bottom line is something is commanding the LPS to fire when it oughtn’t. Just need to sort out how that’s happening.

Good point! I’m guessing the white wires are to power it on with the switch on the k40. Awsometech doesn’t detail how to hook the (blue) power cords to the board except to simply unplug from the nano board and plug into the mini gerbil.
I just downloaded Meerk40t going to give that a whirl tonight.

FWIW, I bought a mini gerbil. Tried for several days to get it working. Talked to the owner and got some pretty snippy remarks. Gave it away and bought the board from Tim Rothman. Was up and running in less than 15 minutes. That is just my experience.
Will send pictures of my wiring if needed

Unfortunately I couldn’t get the meerk40t to run lightburn. Who is Tim? Is there a website?

How did you attempt this? Using Ruida emulation or GRBL emulation?

Curious if you meant Tim Rothman. I have one of his 4 axis boards (B-N-B 3). If it’s Richmond, a link would be most welcome. Cheers.

The video I watched he used a nano board and typed in ruidacontrol to the console of meek40t. At least that’s what I think he did. So I did the same.

Correct. Rothman. Got my mind on NASCAR Tim Richmond was driver.

Once you did that, what was the complication preventing it from working?

I have no idea. I didn’t get any response from lightburn I haven’t really seen much documentation on this only the video.

I mean what did you do and what happened that was in contrast to what you expected?

Did you configure LightBurn for the Ruida? Do you have a DSP license or running the Trial?

I just got a new laptop so I’m running the trial version right now. Maybe that’s the problem. as far as what I did, I tried to follow the example in the video which is to install meerk40t and type in the command really ruidacontrol like he did in the video. in his video it allowed him to start moving the laser head around and I assume use it. I’m not sure of all the functionality he was getting but I did not get any response from lightburn. Under the devices I selected ruida for the device.

Trial is fine. It will have DSP capability.

Did you follow the device setup that he does at 9:20 of the video? You need to setup the connection type as Ethernet/UDP. Then use 127.0.0.1 as the IP (that’s the localhost).

Thats what didn’t do! Thanks for pointing that out. Do now im off to do some experiments! Thanks for everyone’s imput. I realize its tough to troubleshoot these things and i appreciate everyone’s input!

You may also want to test the GRBL capability. Instead of typing ‘RUIDACONTROL’ into the console I believe you type ‘GRBLSERVER’ but not certain. You’d have to setup a GRBL device with Ethernet/IP. Then again, 127.0.0.1 for the network and I believe 23 for the port if that’s an option.

If that works equally well then that would save you the cost of the DSP license.

Thank you i will!
