Laser home in bottom left but point the laser and it goes to right rear

So what’s the behavior now? Can you run this command?

$#

The laser was in the middle of the board, I turned it on and it moved over to the front left corner(home)

Here is what I got from the $# command:

$#

[G54:0.000,0.000,0.000]

To be clear, you ran the G92 command after homing, correct? And then the $# immediately afterward?

If not, can you try again:

  1. Home
  2. G92 X0 Y0 command
  3. $# commnad
  4. ? command

Okay. After you initiate the G92 command does the laser perform normally?

You can use jogging controls: left goes left, right goes right, up goes up, down goes down?

If so, I think you’ll need to issue the G92 command every time you home the machine.

so I homed the machine typed the code chose moved the lase down on the Z axis, chose absolute coordinates pressed start on the laser and the laser shot over to the right rear corner of the boars and also raised the lase on the z axis. I did it again after homing and setting the Z axis and it moved over a little bit and raised the laser on the z axis and stopped

I’m a little confused what you’re doing. Can you do this:

  1. Home
  2. Issue G92 X0 Y0 command
  3. Issue G0 X200 Y200 command

What happens? Does the machine move to the center of the bed?

yes it did. If we get cut off again tonight I want you to know I appreciate all your help so far and If I don’t respond it is because we have hit a newbie limit

Okay. From there, don’t mess with the Z control. If you jog left and right. Does the machine move accordingly? If you push up and down, does it move accordingly? Try to describe the motion of each button.

it moves forwards and back left and right no problem, just scooting around the board like I asked it to

Okay, create a rectangle in the middle of your workspace. It will get assigned by default to C00. Change the speed to something like 500 mm/min with a low power (1%).

Try framing. If that works. Push the play button to try to burn.

it set to c01 I assume that doesn’t matter but how do I “try framing it” sorry but I haven’t got that far in light burn yet

Layer doesn’t matter but make sure it’s set to “Line” mode. In Laser window, there are 2 buttons with icons that shows a dashed rectangle and a dashed circle. Both are for framing. Push the dashed rectangle. The Play button is the start button.

it went through the motions but the z axis didn’t so it was way up off the deck so I got not “burn” on the material. I assume you know that but I want to be as clear as I can about what is going on over here

Yeah. I didn’t expect it to burn since power was low. I just wanted to make sure it was behaving correctly which it sounds like it did. That’s good.

Okay, let’s see if Z axis works. If you push the Z-down and Z-up buttons now, what happens?

moves as instructed

Okay. Layout some sacrificial material. Use the Z controls to get to the proper focus depth.

On cut settings increase the power level to something like 15%. Frame and then try to burn. If nothing burns, increase power by 5% increments and repeat.

Try and report back please.

got cut off again

I got a light line but you can clearly see it

If that’s the case then you’re basically in business. Now it’s just a matter of working out speed and power for the various materials that you use.

I suggest you setup a Macro in Console so that you can set your 0,0 easily after each homing operation.
Just setup as:

G92 X0 Y0

Then use Laser Tools->Material Test to run a material test or download one of the common ones available.
