Laser Home Position

Good morning, All

I have done some (unsuccessful) digging, and maybe it is just how I am trying to explain it and that’s why I can’t find anything.

How can I (if possible) change the home position of my laser for the duration a job? I have a jig in the bottom right-hand corner, but for time, I’d like it to not return all the way back to the top right every time it’s done engraving. This is quite a pain as a few seconds here and there coming to and from add up over 240+ runs.

As far as I know you can’t… at least very simply change the origin.

The home corner tell the controller which quadrant it operates within.

This is generally true with dsp type controllers. Some grbl or gcode may allow you temporarily change and origin.

Might want to read the machine settings, look and see if it has a return to position after a job. I use user origin for a return location.

Although controller doc rarely matches reality, perhaps the GoBack Position mentioned on pages 68-69 of The Fine Manual will help:

  • Current Position: laser head will stay at where task finished.
  • Current Origin: go back to Origin point after finishing work.
  • Zero Coord: laser head goes back to machine zero point since all finished.

There’s apparently a way to set the Current Origin that may involve the Origin Mode, although it’s obviously going to require some experimentation while standing at the machine.

I don’t think origin mode will help, it’s pretty specialized.

Ahh damn. Well, I guess that is what we get for using a giant laser in comparison to the work were using it for. ha-ha

I will check out the info both of you have mentioned and see what happens.

I guess that I can place it closer to the home origin however it will be a little rough on the thighs as we have about a 4ft laser bed

I appreciate you!

I wish I had that complaint!!!

Haha, not this one you don’t.! This one is made for cutting fabric.. not to engrave. Not to mention its one of two prototypes with clunky software lol
