Laser lights up and moves but doesn't cut. Please help

I recently got an aufero laser 2. I tried to cut my first design and the laser lights up and moves around the design but doesnt leave a mark. I have the power set to 100. I am very new to this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Cut your speed in half and try.
Have you done any material tests?

I haven’t tried any test materials. This is my very first time using any of this. What would you suggest? Thank you so much for your help, it is so greatly appreciated!

Excuse me from dropping in from space, but the doc is always a good starting point:

Protip: Use those Amazon boxes as practice material. When you can reliably mark / cut / engrave cardboard, move on to the spendy stuff!

I have read through that and set everything up but it just barely leaves a mark. That is at 100% and 3900mm/s. I am flustered to say the least lol

Please try 3.900 mm/min or lower.

Thank you! I tried it and these are the results. Not sure what to do next

Slow your speeds down. Increase your power.

That was from the test

This is at 1000mm/m and 100% powere. It basically drew part of the shape but didnt even cut through card stock. What could I be doing wrong?

What does it do at 500mm/min?

This was at 500mm/m and 100% on white card stock. It just has random burns throughout it. I am trying to cut some patterns out to make my grandson some shoes and this has become overwhelming. Everything I read was this was pretty simple to understand but I am at a loss :frowning:

How many watt have your Aufero laser? 5W?

This is the one I bought. I think it is 2W.

Aufero Laser Engraver, 2 W Diode Laser Engraver Machine

The description explains the problem you’re having with cutting:

Please Note: The LU2-2A laser module is only used for engraving

The 5.5 W LU2-4-LF is listed as “Better Cutting”:

It can surely cut very thin material, like dark paper, albeit at very slow speeds with some charring.

I was unaware they made anything under 5 watts.

So I should look at a different laser that is 5W and higher?

thank you! So I should look at a different laser that is 5W and higher?

When I had 5W / 10W, I was operating with 40-200 mm speeds at plywood 3mm.
Mean with 2W you really gone start from low speeds, speeds 300-800 for engrave probably in your case…
