Laser Master won't engrave

I have an older (circa 2019) Laser Master, which always worked fine but has been sitting idle for around a year. Decided this morning to get it back online, so hooked it up, upgraded the firmware to 1.42, and upgrade LightBurn to 1.1.04.

All axes move fine, laser illuminates, but it will barely cut anything. I have files I saved off before with, say, linework at 1000 mm/min and 60% power that won’t even trace a distinguishable line. The only way I’ve been able to get it to burn at all is to turn power up to 100% and speed to 100 mm/min.

Have tried everything I know of to try, including removing and rediscovering the device, re-focusing, and cleaning the lens but no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated!

In LightBurn click Edit in the top row,
Scroll down to Device Settings and click that…
have a look to see that $30 (currently 1000 in the report above) is equal to S Value max. (toward the lower right corner)

If LightBurn defaulted to S=255 then LightBurn would call for roughly 1/4 of the power that the engraver is expecting.

Thanks for the reply John. $30 and S Value Max are both set to 1000. I’ve logged a ticket with Ortur tech support, who are leaning towards a bad laser. Just seems pretty coincidental that the machine was working fine (if infrequently used) until I updated both the firmware and LightBurn, but that’s just the way troubleshooting goes sometimes I guess.

Just a reply to let Lightburn off the hook… have been in touch with Ortur tech support, and after further testing it looks like my laser module is kaput. Will instead take the opportunity to say that LB is one of my favorite software packages, and I’ve worked with a lot of them in various other CNC areas. It’d be a bargain at twice the price - but please don’t go getting any ideas.
