Laser No Longer Burning

Hi everyone,

So I’m really at a loss here. I have the Sienci Labs laser module (Found here: ([Sienci LaserBeam Laser System | Sienci Labs]). Currently running the G2 laser. I’ve worked a few projects through it and it worked great. Suddenly I am having an issue where it’s not marking at all and I don’t know why. I haven’t changed any settings from the previous jobs. The laser focuses and burns while focusing. I export the gcode from Lightburn and bring it to Gsender and it starts the job. Laser turns on and off, no marks on the wood. I’ve checked the firmware settings and they’re all correct. Seriously not idea what’s changed aside from I updated Lightburn and Gsender to the most recent versions. Running via Lightburn has the same effect (eg. Nothing)

Settings:
Fill @ 25.4 mm/s, 100% power

Lightburn File:
Coaster 1 LB.lbrn2 (3.2 MB)

Please help!

Thanks kindly!
A

Are your S-Value Max and $30 settings correct? Both should be equal and set to 1000, this is the Lightburn default… This is how Lightburn computes how to set the machines power.

If you can see the beam, I would think it’s working.

And maybe try enabling this if above doesn’t work.

The Sienci setup video has you change the value in Lightburn and the Firmware to 255 so I did that? It worked on the last few projects no problem.

The 255 value is based on 8 bit machines. The actual value sent to the machine is based on the min/max spindle speed values which are $30 (max) and $31 (min).

Lightburn wisely, used 1000 as the max value, which gives you the more accurate resolution for machines with larger data words … most of these have moved to a 32 bit cpu, that can generate, at minimum, a pwm based on 16 bits.

For this to work, both the controller and the software has to speak the same language, this is why S-Value Max (Lightburn) must be equal to $30 (controller). It’s the same as Lightburn using inches and the machine expecting mm… both machine and software need to be on the same page on how this is defined.

Make sense?

Definitely checked these settings at least a dozen times and no luck. Last night I fired up a gcode of a file that worked a month ago and nothing. Laser fires but no marks on the wood.

So I either have an issue with:

  • Hardware (I really hope not! This laser is hardly used!)
  • Firmware (Is there a list of what each setting should be?)
  • Focusing (I’m pretty sure it’s focused correctly!)

(I’ve tried cleaning the lens and changing it out for an entire different lens. No luck)

How are your controller DIP switches set?
.

All up except for 5. It’s down.

Clean your laser lens, set controller DIP switches all up and #4 down.
Turn switch on press power reset button confirm your driver power LED is on.
.Check your speed in mm/m.
Draw and cut 3 squares 50mm x 50mm
1 600mm/m 60% power Constant Power Mode
2 600mm/m 70% power Constant Power Mode
3 600mm/m 80% power Constant Power Mode

Found the problem and I have ZERO idea how this can even happen.
Check out the pictures. I used a jewelers loupe to look in to the laser casing. It’s cracked, what’s more…the crack went through the laser glass and all the way through the lens. So, I guess after two projects, this laser is toast. And out of warranty. So that’s fun.

How the beam was able to KO both pieces of glass is beyond me.

Check if SL have spares and max your output to 4A or 4.5A per manual.
Set S-Value max for 230 and keep your $30=255.

Can that one piece be replaced?

You have to contact SL.
If your laser don´t have spares you can buy one laser head from LaserTree with external air-assist (better).
