Hi, I rarely cut with my laser because it is relatively small 20W diode. Someone asked me to try so I thought why not. I knew my wood was thicker than the recommended limit but I pushed the power level up and slowed down the speed, multiple passes etc and I managed to knock enough out that looked good for the order. Now I’m asked to do the same thing and when I run it now, I notice on some passes the laser seems to just turn off until it goes to another layer and then it turns back on. Has anyone encountered this type of situation before? I looked through the archives but couldn’t tell if most of the responses stopped moving all together or if just the laser was cutting out. Will be time for an upgrade soon… Ive had about all I can take with Ortur.
Could the laser module be shutting itself down due to overtemperature? That would account for the variable downtime, because it would depend on the power level and elapsed time since it (re)started.
Perhaps you must provide a timeout between passes or copies of the same pattern.
I’m speculating that @ednisley is correct about the temperature issue.
However, this should be posted in the Ortur area where more people will find it that have this machine.
Also, @OrturTech, Gil, might have some input on this. Might want to add pushed the power up to what? Don’t forget to include the speed are you using…?
Could be a firmware issue
We had a G0 G1 bug on earlyer versions
@Thelaserjacks if you type $i in console can you post outpput as well as a snapshot of your project and layers?
I was thinking the same but did not think it would do that… could be correct.

Gil, I’ve had problems with this before, but it’s never been this hard to get the 5 seconds then 1 second button press to work. Does it have to be exactly 5 second and one second, or can it be a little more or a little less or is it when the blue light comes on that you start counting? This is very frustrating. I’ve tried every combo I can think of, I’m using Mac OS and it’s just not coming up as a location. I mean it’s almost impossible to hit exactly 5 seconds and then one second after.
Sorry just realized I didn’t tag you, please see my latest comment
Try this other combo
Tap reset to power off
PRESS and hold reset for 3 seconds
Then press and hold pwoer for 3 seconds too
Release reset → release power
All updated, thanks!
