Hi all,
Any help or ideas here is greatly appreciated!
I have a Shapeoko XXL (GRBL) with a SmartSain laser attached.

The fire button properly turn the laser on and off. But when running the cut sequence, the laser is on just a little for travels and stays on at the end of the routine. I click fire button twice after the routine and it turns the laser off.
Here are my $$ settings.
$0=10
In Edit > Device Settings, what is the ‘S-value Max’ number set to?
And double check the $32 setting - some machines automatically revert that number after reset. I know X-Carve does it, but I’m not sure about Shapeoko.

Thanks for taking time to reply! I really appreciate it.
That $$ dump was taken right after executing my User Laser macro which is -
I don’t power off the router before running it so I am pretty sure that the $$ shown is accurate.
Which version of GRBL firmware are you running on the machine? It should tell you when it connects.

Incidentally, it does look like $30 is stored when powered down and back up. This $$ was pulled after power up before running the macro (but after having run it a few days ago and then turning the router off)

It’s supposed to be, but some controller makers force it to reset on power up. I don’t see anything in your settings that indicate a problem, so I’d check wiring and grounding.

The thing that led me away from hardware though is the fact that the fire laser button in LightBurn works perfectly. Click- laser on. Click - laser off.
But, during a programmed burn, the laser stays on all the time
None the less, there are only like 5 or 6 wires so I will recheck them.
Try making a job that would leave the laser on, but instead of running the file, click ‘Save GCode’ and post the saved gcode here so I can see it.

What does the fire laser button send?
M3, G1 Sxxx, and then M5 when you shut it off.

I found the issue and thought I would share it here incase anyone else hits this odd little problem.
It was a wiring problem like Oz said.
To fix this I simply reversed the wires so that the exposed metal part faced away from the adjacent row of pins!
What let me to this was a secondary symptom found during trouble shooting. Connecting the wiring harness to the Shapeoko MB would sometimes cause the Shapeoko to stop responding to the computer. Even when only one only the Shapeoko side of the wire was plugged in. This nailed down that the problem was the physical wire itself.
I ohmed out the wire harness several times and found no shorts. After that I noticed the exposed metal and the orientation and there it was!
I hope this helps someone else someday!
